Ormond Beach Summer 2026: Why Granada Avenue Is the Only Address You Need to Track

Where does an Ormond Beach resident actually spend a summer weekend in 2026, and why does so much of the answer keep landing on one three-mile line running from the Casements east across the Granada Bridge to Ocean Shore Boulevard? The corridor is doing more work this year than it has in a long time. A shuttered chain box has a new tenant. A neighborhood cafe changed hands and changed its whole identity. The Performing Arts Center is booking the kind of nights that pull people off the beach. If you live here, the practical move this summer is to stop thinking about the beach and downtown as separate errands and start reading Granada as one continuous schedule.

The corridor is being rewritten in real time

Two of the most visible changes on Granada in the last twelve months are restaurants, and both landed in spaces that used to belong to something else. At 24 Ocean Shore Boulevard, inside the Granada Plaza just east of the bridge, Margarita Island Mexican Kitchen and Bar opened in a space of almost 8,000 square feet that has been remodeled in the local franchise's style, lush tropical themes with a substantial bar area in the center. The address matters because it is not a new build. The restaurant space Margarita Island is now occupying used to house a former TGI Fridays, which closed in 2024. A dark chain corner on the beachside approach is now a locally owned kitchen with a full bar, and that alone changes what the east end of the bridge feels like on a Friday night.

This is the fourth location, and the biggest yet, for Margarita Island, owned by David Gonzalez and his wife Elizabeth. The Gonzalezes lived in Ormond Beach for over a decade before this opening, and the building had been on their radar for years.

North of downtown, at 1460 Ocean Shore Boulevard, a smaller swap happened in the same spirit. Ormond Beach Diner is located at 1460 Ocean Shore Blvd., replacing the former Sun and Sand Cafe. The diner serves breakfast and lunch on Wednesday through Monday, closed on Tuesdays, as well as dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. As Dzyubin worked in New York restaurants for most of his life, opening a New-York-style diner in Ormond-by-the-Sea was "the obvious answer," he said. Owners Evgeny Dzyubin and Danielle Armenta run it as a two-person operation with a small staff, and because they are a small restaurant, they go shopping for ingredients after the restaurant closes and prep them to be ready the next day. That is a different rhythm from the cafe it replaced, and residents who wrote off the plaza during the Sun and Sand era are worth sending back.

South of Granada on the beachside, Beachside has changed hands as well. Under new owner Dee, the property added The Lounge at Beachside, a new venue located downstairs, with live music and an upstairs deck for ocean views. Two floors, live music on weekends, one address. If you have not been in since the ownership change, it now reads as a different room.

The weekly rotation, written down

The reason Granada functions as a spine in summer is that three recurring events sit on or near it, and once you learn the rhythm you stop having to plan.

• Thursday morning, City Hall. The Ormond Beach Farmer's Market runs Thursdays from 8:00 AM at City Hall. Park once, walk to Rockefeller Gardens after.
• Summer evenings, the Casements North Lawn. The Summer Sounds Free Concert Series invites residents to enjoy live music during the warm summer evenings, held on The Casements North Lawn, featuring performances by local bands. Free, outdoors, walkable from the bridge.
• First Saturday of the month, three buildings, one shuttle. The city's First Saturday Ormond Art Walk connects three institutions along the river corridor, and during the First Saturday Ormond Art Walk, OMAM features a pop-up artist in its Reception Gallery, sells a light selection of wine and beer on the first floor, and admission is free with a complimentary shuttle to visit all Art Walk stops. The three stops are the Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens, the Ormond Beach Historical Society, and the Casements. The shuttle is the detail most residents miss.

Three anchors, three days of the week, three walkable stops. Building a summer routine around them takes about ten minutes of planning and replaces most of what people usually improvise.

The dated calendar worth putting on the fridge

The rest of the summer and early fall is not ambient. It is scheduled, and the schedule is unusually strong this year. Instead of a paragraph of prose you would forget by Tuesday, here it is in the order it happens.

A few of these deserve a second look. The July 4 celebration is not staged at a single park. Ormond Beach's annual Independence Day Celebration is held at all four corners of the Granada Bridge. If you have only watched it from one side in past years, the other three are a different show. Classic Albums Live: Lynyrd Skynyrd is on Sunday, July 12 at 7:00 PM at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center, and the 7th Annual Ormond Beach Beer Festival is Saturday, October 10 at 1:00 PM at The Casements. Thirty years of Main Street is a real anniversary, and Cassen Park is a small enough footprint that this one will feel packed in the best sense.

The festival occupies two downtown parks along the Halifax River, filling them with multiple music stages, a Highland Games, a Clan Village, and Celtic societies from throughout the region, and the weekend attracts more than 10,000 locals and visitors each year. Nothing on the summer list will hit that number, but Riverfest in November tends to try.

What to do with all of this if you already live here

Here is the practical takeaway that a resident can act on this weekend. Treat Granada as one address. If you are hosting family in July, the two-stop night is Margarita Island for dinner and Summer Sounds at the Casements after, with the whole thing inside a ten-minute walk. If you have been meaning to try Ormond Beach Diner, go on a Friday or Saturday, because the dinner service is the only time the diner serves specials like home-style meatloaf, pastas and short rib, and that is the menu that gives you a fair read on the kitchen.

If you own on the beachside and normally cross the bridge only to run errands, the calendar above is a case for reversing the direction. Most of what is happening this summer is on the west side of A1A, staged around the Casements, Rockefeller Gardens, Cassen Park, and the Performing Arts Center. The Coastal Cleanup on September 19 is the one exception worth flagging, because it happens simultaneously at the Granada Approach at 21 Ocean Shore Blvd and at Michael Crotty Bicentennial Park at 8:00 AM, and both are easier to reach from the beachside than from downtown.

One more thing worth naming, because it is easy to underestimate. The pattern here is not a town programming for tourists. It is a town programming for the people who already live in it. The farmer's market at City Hall on a Thursday morning is not a destination event. Neither is a Summer Sounds concert on a July Tuesday. These are neighborhood habits with a schedule attached, and the reason to write them down is that they are the reason many of us moved here in the first place.
