At 3 p.m. this Saturday, October 10, classic cars will line up on Canal Street for three hours. That happens on the second Saturday of every month, so Canal Street regulars will see it again on November 14. Across the Intracoastal, Flagler Avenue has no recurring second-Saturday event. Its October is built around one four-day music festival and a Saturday stacked with chili, craft beer, and a Halloween shopping night the evening before.
The two districts are a short drive apart, but their calendars work in different ways. The Canal Street Historic District builds its year on set Saturdays: the first Saturday of the month, the second Saturday, and every Saturday morning. Flagler Avenue builds its year around themed blocks that usually start on a Thursday and finish on a Sunday. Once you know which system each street uses, the October through December calendar is much easier to plan.
Canal Street Runs on Set Saturdays
The Canal Street Historic District describes its year as a monthly series of Art & Artisan Strolls, Sip & Stroll evenings, Classic Cars on Canal, and Gallery Walks. Its own events page tells visitors to "check the calendar often for new dates and special editions." The series repeats closely enough that you can learn the pattern:
- Every Saturday, 7 a.m. to noon: the Farmers' Market at 210 Sams Avenue, in front of City Hall.
- First Saturday, daytime: the Art & Artisan Stroll, with shopping, sidewalk sales, and live music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The November 7 stroll runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- First Saturday, afternoon: Sip & Stroll, 1 to 6 p.m. A $25 ticket, tax included, gets you a passport, drink tickets, a wristband, and a souvenir glass good for craft beer and wine at 11 participating locations. Bring the glass back next time and you get $2 off.
- First Saturday, evening: the Gallery Walk, 4 to 7 p.m.
- Second Saturday: Classic Cars on Canal, 3 to 6 p.m. on October 10 and November 14. The city calendar also lists Cars on Canal for December 12.
That means the first Saturday of the month runs nearly all day on Canal Street, from the market at 7 a.m. to the last gallery stop at 7 p.m. For January's Gallery Walk, the district listed five participants: The Artists' Workshop, The Hub on Canal, Jane's Art Center, Arts on Douglas, and Wirth Gallery. That list is from earlier this year, so check the current route before you go. The Hub is active this fall. It has scheduled "A Taste for the Arts" for November 5, with the event listed at 105 S. Riverside Drive.
October also brings one seasonal addition. The Scarecrow Contest runs from October 1 to November 5 along Canal Street and the surrounding streets, and People's Choice voting closes October 15. Families, businesses, schools and churches, and district members could all enter. Judges score creativity, craftsmanship, seasonal spirit, and visual impact, and every entry had to be family-friendly, nonpolitical, weather-resistant, and securely built. A scarecrow that has to survive five weeks of October weather on a public sidewalk needs more than a stuffed flannel shirt.
Flagler Avenue Plans Around Festival Weekends
On Flagler Avenue, the calendar follows themes. The Flagler Avenue Business Association's calendar sets up each season as a run of festivals, and almost every multi-day event starts before the weekend does:
- Fall Music Festival: Thursday, October 15, through Sunday, October 18. Free live music runs along the avenue all four days, and the schedule is posted on Facebook.
- Rock n Roll Music Festival: Thursday, November 19, through Sunday, November 22.
- Merry Hits-Mas Music Festival: three Friday-and-Saturday pairs, December 4–5, 11–12, and 18–19.
- Countdown Jam Music Festival: December 26 through 31.
Single-day ticketed events fill in around the music festivals. Most are run by the Flagler Avenue Hospitality Group, and the ticket pickup point is the Welcome Porch at 401 Flagler Avenue, at the S. Cooper Street intersection. The Chili Challenge on Saturday, October 17, runs from 1 to 6 p.m. Your passport and spoon get you samples at host locations up and down the avenue, and you vote for "Best at the Beach." The Florida Craft Beer Tour runs the same hours on the same day. A $20 passport covers 20 samples from Florida breweries, a keepsake mug, and a map of host locations. The Wine Walk happens once a month. October's is Saturday, October 24, from 1 to 7 p.m., and a $30 passport covers 20 tastings, a keepsake glass, and a map.
Compare those prices with Canal Street. Canal's $25 Sip & Stroll comes back on the same Saturday each month at the same 11 locations, with a discount for bringing your glass back. Flagler's tastings come in themes, so you pay for chili one Saturday, beer the same afternoon, and wine a week later. Neither district publishes its full list of host businesses ahead of time. The map comes with the passport.
The month-long events on Flagler run differently again. The Great NSB Pumpkin Hunt lasts from October 1 to 31. Pick up a map at The Seahorse Inn or at the first pumpkin you find, collect stamps from the businesses hosting pumpkins, and return the finished map to The Seahorse Inn at 423 Flagler Avenue for a chance at a free stay there. The Great NSB Holiday Cocktail Tour fills December 1 through 26 the same way. Those two events keep Flagler's calendar going between festivals.
Four Days When Both Sides Are Busy
Because the two districts schedule on different patterns, they rarely plan around each other. Most fall weekends lean busy on one side. A few dates fill up on both sides of the river, plus the city venues in between:
| Date | Flagler Avenue | Canal Street and citywide |
|---|---|---|
| Sat., Oct. 24 | Wine Walk, 1–7 p.m. | Farmers' Market in the morning; free Fall Festival at the NSB Sports Complex, 1800 Turnbull Bay Road, 4–8 p.m. |
| Sat., Nov. 14 | Flamingo Follies outdoor art show, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. | Classic Cars on Canal, 3–6 p.m. |
| Fri.–Sat., Nov. 27–28 | Rock n Roll festival wrapped up the Sunday before | Christmas on Canal both days; Coastal Christmas Market Saturday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. |
| Fri.–Sat., Dec. 4–5 | Light Up Flagler Friday, 5–8 p.m.; Cookie Challenge Friday, 4–8 p.m.; Merry Hits-Mas both days | First Saturday on Canal; NSB Cars & Coffee at the Wawa lot, 8:30–10:30 a.m. Saturday |
October 17 is the busiest day on Flagler alone. The Chili Challenge, the Craft Beer Tour, and the third day of the Fall Music Festival all happen the same afternoon, the day after Witches' Night Out. Canal Street has nothing listed against it.
November 14 is the only fall Saturday when both main draws fall on the same afternoon. Flamingo Follies runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, overlapping the first two hours of Classic Cars on Canal, which runs 3 to 6 p.m. The art show reopens Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., so a Saturday afternoon on Canal Street still leaves time to see it.
Thanksgiving week works out cleanly. The Gobble Wobble Beach 5K on the sand starts Thanksgiving morning, November 26, from 7:30 to 11 a.m. The next two days belong to the mainland, with Christmas on Canal on November 27–28 and the Coastal Christmas Market on the 28th.
Light Up Flagler needs one note. The city's December calendar lists it for Friday, December 4, from 5 to 8 p.m., running along Flagler from N. Atlantic to Peninsula. One event description on the Flagler side says "Friday, December 5." December 4, 2026, is the Friday, so the city's date matches the calendar. Check with the organizers as the date gets closer. December 3 adds one more Canal Street night just before that weekend: Girls Night Out, a dining and shopping event from 5 to 9 p.m.
The Weeknight Schedule Outside Both Districts
The city runs its own smaller schedule away from both main streets, and it covers the days the districts leave quiet. Food Trucks @ Venetian Bay sets up in the Venetian Bay Pool parking lot on Monday evenings from 4 to 8 p.m. The city calendar listed it as early as June 1 and again for October 5, so it is running this fall. December's calendar lists it on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th. Mondays are the one day neither downtown has anything scheduled, which makes them a natural fit for this event.
NSB Cars & Coffee meets at the Wawa parking lot from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on December 5 and December 19. On December 5 it overlaps the start of Canal Street's first Saturday, when the Farmers' Market opens at 7 a.m. and the First Saturday Sidewalk Events begin at 9 a.m. The city's free Fall Festival at the NSB Sports Complex on October 24 runs 4 to 8 p.m., which overlaps the last hours of Flagler's Wine Walk.
A Newer Option on Canal Street
Canal Street has also added a regular weekday spot this year. In January, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported on Bricks European Cafe, the newest eatery in historic downtown, built around coffee and sandwiches. The paper said it planned to add evening hours with tapas and wine. Whether those evening hours have started isn't confirmed. Its morning service fits right in with a Saturday that starts at the Sams Avenue market.
Both districts post updates as the season goes on. Canal Street adds "special editions" to its calendar, and Flagler posts its music schedules on Facebook. Check the Canal Street events page and the Flagler Avenue calendar the week of any date above.
